Oncology

kitten"Cancer” is a term that immediately brings fear and negative emotions to mind, especially when it pertains to your beloved pet. Dr. Joey Bryant believes that cancer is actually one of the more treatable geriatric diseases. Unlike some geriatric diseases like renal failure and congestive heart failure, at least some cancers may have the opportunity for a complete cure.

Plum Creek Veterinary Hospital offers oncology services including identification of tumors (“lumps and bumps”) on your pet during the physical exam, cytological examination of tumors (sticking a needle into it and looking at it under the microscope), surgical removal of tumors and chemotherapy at our hospital. The type of tumor – benign or malignant, tissue type and size – as well as the overall health of your pet and your personal wishes will dictate the oncology service that Dr. Bryant provides. Sometimes no action except monitoring is recommended. Sometimes surgical removal is the cure. Other times, surgery followed by chemotherapy will provide the best outcome for all involved. And unfortunately, sometimes humane euthanasia is the most compassionate road to take. The team at Plum Creek Veterinary Hospital will be there to support you and your pet along the way. And always, we are happy to refer you to a board-certified veterinary oncologist and/or radiologist for second opinions and/or advanced oncology care including specialized chemotherapy treatments and radiation therapy.
