Contagious Diseases/Isolation Treatment
Plum Creek Veterinary Hospital is equipped with an isolation ward for pets carrying contagious diseases such as kennel cough, feline upper respiratory infections, canine parvovirus and distemper virus. The isolation ward has its own cages, exam table and medical supplies that do not mix with the general hospital supplies. A window to the main treatment area allows the patients in isolation to be constantly observed while hospitalized. In addition, the exhaust from isolation does not mix with the airflow to the rest of the hospital, ensuring that contagious diseases remain contained and do not spread to other pets in the hospital.
As a note, we do not recommend hospitalization of dogs with infectious tracheobronchitis (“kennel cough”) if it can be avoided. This condition rarely requires hospitalization, and it is better for all pets if your pet can return home as soon as possible to prevent spread of this easily contagious upper respiratory disease.
